Everything you need to know about getting a tattoo at ELITE INK LTD

General Questions

How do I book an appointment?

You can book an appointment by filling out our online booking form, calling us directly at +1 613 722 2931, or emailing Terry.Dixon.1982@gmail.com. We'll get back to you within 24 hours to discuss your design ideas and confirm your appointment time.

Do I need to be 18 to get a tattoo?

Yes, you must be at least 18 years old to get a tattoo at our studio. We require valid government-issued photo identification at your appointment. This is non-negotiable and in accordance with Canadian health regulations.

How much do tattoos cost?

Tattoo pricing varies depending on size, complexity, placement, and the time required to complete the piece. Our artists charge either hourly rates or flat rates for specific designs. During your consultation, we'll provide a detailed quote based on your custom design. Generally, our hourly rates range from $150-$250 per hour, with a minimum charge of $100 for small pieces.

Do you require a deposit?

Yes, we require a non-refundable deposit to secure your appointment. The deposit amount typically ranges from $100-$200 depending on the size and complexity of your tattoo, and will be deducted from your final payment. Deposits are necessary to reserve your time slot and for our artists to create your custom design.

Tattoo Process

Does getting a tattoo hurt?

Pain levels vary from person to person and depend on the tattoo location. Most clients describe the sensation as a scratching or stinging feeling. Areas with more muscle and fat (like arms, thighs) tend to be less painful than bony areas (ribs, ankles, spine). Our experienced artists work efficiently and can take breaks if needed to make the process as comfortable as possible.

How long will my tattoo session take?

Session duration depends on the size and complexity of your tattoo. Small, simple designs may take 1-2 hours, while larger, more detailed pieces can take 4-8 hours or multiple sessions. During your consultation, your artist will provide an estimated timeframe. We always allow breaks during longer sessions.

Can I bring my own design?

Absolutely! We welcome reference images and design ideas. Our artists will work with you to refine the design, ensure it translates well to skin, and adapt it to your chosen placement. We can tattoo your design as-is or use it as inspiration to create something unique for you.

What should I do to prepare for my tattoo appointment?

Before your appointment:

  • Eat a good meal 1-2 hours before your session
  • Stay well-hydrated in the days leading up to your appointment
  • Get a good night's sleep
  • Avoid alcohol and aspirin for 24 hours before
  • Wear comfortable clothing that provides easy access to the tattoo area
  • Bring a valid photo ID
  • Bring snacks and water for longer sessions

Aftercare & Healing

How do I care for my new tattoo?

Immediate aftercare (first 2-3 hours): Keep the bandage on for 2-3 hours. Remove it gently and wash with lukewarm water and fragrance-free soap.

First 2 weeks:

  • Wash 2-3 times daily with fragrance-free soap
  • Apply a thin layer of unscented lotion or tattoo aftercare product
  • Pat dry with a clean towel, never rub
  • Avoid soaking (no swimming, baths, hot tubs)
  • Don't scratch or pick at scabs
  • Avoid direct sunlight and tanning beds
  • Wear loose clothing over the tattoo

We provide detailed aftercare instructions and are always available to answer questions during your healing process.

How long does it take for a tattoo to heal?

The surface of your tattoo will typically heal within 2-3 weeks, but complete healing of all skin layers takes 3-6 months. During the first week, you may experience redness, swelling, and light scabbing. By week 2-3, the tattoo should be fully healed on the surface, though the deeper layers continue healing beneath.

Can I exercise after getting a tattoo?

It's best to avoid strenuous exercise for at least 48-72 hours after getting tattooed. Excessive sweating, friction from clothing, and movement can irritate the fresh tattoo and increase healing time. Light activities like walking are fine, but avoid gym workouts, swimming, and activities that cause excessive perspiration until your tattoo has begun to heal.

Will my tattoo fade over time?

All tattoos will experience some fading over many years, but proper care can minimize this. The main cause of tattoo fading is sun exposure, so always use high SPF sunscreen on your tattoo when in the sun. Quality inks, proper application technique, and good aftercare also help maintain your tattoo's appearance. Touch-ups can refresh your tattoo if needed years down the line.

Health & Safety

How do you ensure hygiene and safety?

Your safety is our top priority. We maintain the highest hygiene standards:

  • All equipment is sterilized using medical-grade autoclave
  • We use single-use, disposable needles and tubes
  • Artists wear disposable gloves throughout the process
  • Workstations are thoroughly sanitized between clients
  • We follow all health department regulations and guidelines
  • Only professional, vegan-friendly, high-quality inks are used

Can I get a tattoo if I have a medical condition?

It depends on your specific condition. Please inform us of any medical conditions, skin conditions, allergies, or medications during your consultation. Certain conditions (like diabetes, blood disorders, or immune system issues) may require a doctor's approval. We always prioritize your health and safety and will advise you honestly about whether getting a tattoo is appropriate for your situation.

Can I get a tattoo while pregnant or breastfeeding?

We do not tattoo clients who are pregnant or breastfeeding. While the direct risks are minimal, there is a small risk of infection, and your body is going through significant changes during this time. We recommend waiting until after pregnancy and breastfeeding are complete to ensure the best results and safest experience for both you and your baby.

Other Questions

Do you do cover-ups?

Yes, we specialize in cover-up tattoos. Our experienced artists can assess your existing tattoo and design something beautiful to cover it. Keep in mind that cover-ups typically need to be larger and darker than the original tattoo. We'll work with you during consultation to create the best possible design for your cover-up.

Do you offer touch-ups?

Yes, we offer free touch-ups within the first 6 months if needed due to healing issues (not normal fading). This allows us to perfect any areas that may need additional work. Touch-ups are complimentary if you've followed proper aftercare instructions. After 6 months, touch-ups are charged at our regular rates.

Can I bring a friend to my appointment?

Yes, you're welcome to bring one supportive friend or family member to your appointment. However, we ask that they remain respectful and quiet during the tattooing process to allow the artist to concentrate. Children are not permitted in the studio during tattoo sessions.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept cash, all major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express), and debit cards. Deposits can be paid online or over the phone. Tips for your artist are always appreciated and can be given in cash or added to your card payment.
